Ambassador to Swedish Embassy in Minsk
The Government today appointed Stefan Eriksson as Sweden's Ambassador in Minsk, Belarus.
Stefan Eriksson is currently Head of the Minsk Section Office. He has served previously at Sweden's Consulate-General in St Petersburg, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs Department for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union in Brussels, the Swedish Embassy in Moscow and the Swedish Trade Council. Stefan Eriksson will take up his position in summer 2008.
Sweden intends to open the Minsk Embassy towards the end of the year. The main task will be to follow political developments and increase contacts with the Belarus authorities, other embassies and offices of international organisations, the political opposition and civil society.
