Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting 26-27 april 2012.
Issues included in the Ministry for Rural Affairs' areas of responsibility are dealt with in the Agricultural and Fisheries Council.
The agriculture and fisheries ministers also meet every six months at an informal meeting in the Presidency country. No decisions are made at these meetings. Instead, they are an opportunity for the Presidency to take up policy discussions.
EU cooperation in the Ministry for Rural Affairs's spheres of responsibility mainly relate to the following areas:
- veterinary issues
- animal welfare
- foodstuffs
- fisheries
- Special Committee on Agriculture
Minister for Rural Affairs' participation in the EU
The Minister for Rural Affairs takes part in meetings of agriculture and fisheries ministers in the EU. These meetings are held some ten times a year within the framework of the EU Agricultural and Fisheries Council.
Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union, Brussels
The Ministry for Rural Affairs also has a number of agricultural counsellors who are posted at the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union in Brussels.
