Meetings during the Presidency
During a Presidency of the EU many meetings are held at various levels, from working group meetings to ministerial meetings and meetings with countries outside the EU.
The country holding the Presidency leads the meetings of the European Council (i.e. the summits) and Council meetings at all levels. The relevant ministers for the issues to be dealt with meet in the Council of Ministers. The Committee of Permanent Representatives, Coreper, prepares the ministers' meetings. Before a matter reaches Coreper it has been discussed in one of the Council working groups, in which officials and experts from the Member States and the Commission participate. Some 3 300 different EU meetings are held in these groups over six months.
