Swedish Strategy for eHealth - safe and accessible information in health and social care

Safe, accessible health and social care of high quality, based on public need, is the cornerstone of the Swedish strategy for eHealth. The stakeholders behind it use the full potential of ICT as a tool to realize the vision.

EU-report on the benefits of eHealth

The Swedish Presidency of the EU presented a report on the benefits of eHealth on 6-7 July when EU ministers of health met informally in Jönköping, Sweden. Status report 2009

In the status report 2009 the stakeholders behind the strategy, writes that the time has come to move from words to action. The national ICT solutions which have been prepared for many years are now in the final stages of development. The stakeholders thus leave behind them a period of technological development and enter the next phase, focused on organisational change.

Swedish collaboration

The major stakeholders behind the Swedish Strategy for eHealth are: the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, the National Board of Health and Welfare, the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR) and the Association of Private Care Providers. These actors collaborate with many others to realize the strategy.

EU collaboration

In recent years, Sweden has played an active role in the eHealth sphere and has been proactive in efforts to intensifiy and concretise cooperation. Sweden participates actively in the wide-ranging EU project in the eHealth sphere, epSOS. The project involves concrete development work and the creation of a new platform for collaboration.
