Invitation to press conference in connection with Arctic Council Deputy Ministers' meeting

State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Frank Belfrage will host a Deputy Ministers' meeting for the Member States of the Arctic Council in Stockholm on Tuesday 15 May. The meeting marks the halfway point of the Swedish Chairmanship of the Arctic Council. In connection with the Deputy Ministers' meeting, the media are invited to a press conference.

A new project on climate change and environmental impact will be among the items discussed at the meeting. The purpose of the project is to gather information and produce relevant data to enable decision-makers to take the measures demanded by a rapidly changing Arctic region.

Time and place

Journalists are welcome to the opening of the Deputy Ministers meeting at 09.00 on Tuesday 15 May at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm. A press conference, led by Mr Belfrage, will also be held in connection with the conclusion of the meeting, at approximately 12.30 in the Strömsalongerna suite at the Grand Hotel. Representatives of the Member States, Swedens Arctic Ambassador Gustaf Lind, representatives of the Arctic indigenous peoples and prominent Arctic researchers will be on hand for interviews by appointment. Prior notification of attendance is required.

Arctic Council

The Arctic Council is a forum for consultation and cooperation between the governments of the five Nordic countries plus Canada, Russia and the United States, as well as representatives of six Arctic indigenous peoples organisations. Sweden has been chairing the Council since May 2011 and will pass on the Chairmanship to Canada at the foreign ministers meeting in Kiruna in May 2013.
