Minister for International Development Cooperation visits Washington DC
Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson will visit Washington DC on 11-12 June 2012. During her visit Ms Carlsson will take part in the launch of the Grand Challenges for Development Initiative which is being jointly conducted by the USA and Sweden.
The initiative aims to find innovative solutions to the food and energy crises in developing countries by challenging innovators in the business sector and civil society to present new ideas on how agriculture can gain access to clean, modern energy.
During her trip Ms Carlsson will also sign a partnership agreement with the USA aimed at developing cooperation between the countries regarding the rights of LGBT people. The partnership will be headed by the two countries development assistance agencies and involve actors from both civil society and the private sector.
While in Washington, Ms Carlsson will also have meetings with the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United States Ambassador-at-Large for Global Womens Issues and Liberias President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
