Government agencies

The ministries make up a relatively small part of the Swedish public administration. Instead, the day-today operations of public administration are managed by independent government agencies. A number of agencies of varying sizes fall within the Ministry for Rural Affairs' remit. Below you find agencies for which the Ministry for Rural Affairs is principal.

• The Swedish Board of Agriculture

  Field of operations: agriculture, horticulture and reindeer husbandry

• National Food Agency

  Field of operations: foodstuffs

• Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences

  Field of operations: universities, research, higher education

• National Veterinary Institute

  Field of operations: diagnoisis and combating contagious animal diseases - research and prevention

• The Veterinary Disciplinary Board (in Swedish)

  Field of operations: examines matters concerning disciplinary responsibility for veterinary surgeons and also the revoking of veterinary licences

• The central ethical committee on animal experiments

• The Sami Parliament (in Swedish)

  Field of operations: The Sami Parliament is both an agency and an elected parliament whose purpose is to promote the Sami culture

• The Swedish Forest Agency

  The Swedish Forest Agency is the Government's expert authority on forests and forest policy.
