The Ministry of the Environment

The Ministry of the Environment coordinates the Government's environment policy. The Ministry is responsible for issues concerning climate, sustainable development, biodiversity, chemicals, ecocycle, nature conservation, marine environment and international environmental cooperation.

The overall objective of environment policy is to pass on to the next generation a society in which the major environmental problems have been solved, without causing environmental and health problems beyond Sweden's borders. This requires an ambitious and integrated environment policy at home and close cooperation within the EU and internationally.

The Ministry of the Environment has about 150 employees, divided by nine divisions and the ministry leadership. The Ministry is responsible for a number of government agencies and foundations.
