EU language service
The aim of the EU language service is to help make EU texts clearer and simpler. It is thought that if the original texts are clearly drafted, this will automatically improve the quality of the translations.
You may find the EU language service useful if your work involves reading, writing, translating or revising EU texts in the Government Offices, public agencies or EU institutions. With these web pages, the language experts at the Division for Legal and Linguistic Draft Revision in the Ministry of Justice aim to provide:
terminological information and advice to national officials who work with EU texts and to translators, revisors and lawyer-linguists in the EU institutions,
guidelines for clear language in EU texts,
advice during revision of drafts of important EU legislation,
support to initiatives in the EU institutions which aim at raising awareness of the importance of clear and understandable EU texts.
A network of contacts
The EU language service manages a network of contacts in EU language matters in the different ministries and in many public agencies. The network consists of people who know a great deal about the EU-related work of their own organisation, and who either can provide an answer to terminological questions themselves or who know which of their colleagues is the right person to answer the question. The network includes contacts in the EU institutions.
