Parental leave and childcare in focus during Polish visit
Minister for Gender Equality Maria Arnholm today received Poland's gender equality minister Agnieszka Kozlowska-Rajewicz. Ms Kozlowska-Rajewicz is here to study how parental leave and childcare are designed in Sweden, and what the Government is doing about men's violence against women. The two ministers will also pay a visit to the National Police Board to learn about the work of the police, and in particular the campaign against crime in close relationships being conducted by the police.

Reformed Swedish language education for immigrants
Swedish language education for immigrants is not as good as it should be. The Government has therefore decided to expand the remit of the 'Sfi Voucher Inquiry' (Sfi-pengsutredningen). The aim is to reform Swedish language education for immigrants from the ground up.
Maria Arnholm new Minister for Gender Equality
Maria Arnholm was today appointed as new Minister for Gender Equality and Deputy Minister for Education. One of Ms Arnholm's priority areas is the gender pay gap.
SEK 4 billion to boost Swedish research
Minister for Education Jan Björklund today presented the Government's resource and innovation bill. The bill contains a new major resource boost for Swedish research. Appropriations will increase by SEK 4 billion. Long-term investments in frontier research, increased basic resources to universities and higher education institutions, and major investments in life sciences research are important components.

Visit from Brazil
Brazil's Vice President Michel Temer is on a three-day visit to Sweden. Today he was received by Deputy Prime Minister Jan Björklund aboard the MS Riddarfjärden, where a Letter of Intent was signed concerning student exchanges.

Visit by EU Commissioner
Androulla Vassiliou, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth, visited the Ministry of Education and Research on Monday. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the proposal for a new EU programme for education, training, youth and sport - Erasmus for All - were discussed during the Commissioner's meeting with Minister for Education Jan Björklund.
Sweden Science for Life Laboratory will be a world-leading research institute
A new national research institute will be established in 2013 - Sweden Science for Life Laboratory. The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation and AstraZeneca announced today that they will contribute considerable financial support to the project.

On 13-16 March Minister for Education Jan Björklund will visit Washington DC and New York. The purpose of the trip is to represent Sweden at the International Summit on the Teaching Profession and to learn more about US research policy.
