A big step forward for disarmament
"Today a big and very welcome step was taken to move disarmament issues forward," says Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt. The Conference on Disarmament in Geneva succeeded in adopting a programme of work that provides new possibilities of opening negotiations on a Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty (FMCT). The work of the Conference has been blocked for 12 years on account of differences about the programme of work.
