US transport aircraft to take part in Nordic Battle Group final exercise

The US is sending a C17 aircraft to take part in the Nordic Battle Group's (NBG) final exercise. The aim is to demonstrate and practice a 'transport lift'. This will also show the importance of interoperability between different countries and how resources can be pooled.

Defence Ministers at NBG workshop in Enköping May 31

The Nordic Battlegroup (NBG) is part of a European rapid reaction concept that is to be on standby from 1 January 2008. The NBG is a battelgroup under Swedish command. The other countries taking part are Finland, Norway, Ireland and Estonia.

The workshop will focus on decision-making ahead of an operation by the NBG. Participants include Defence Ministers, Supreme Commanders of the armed forces, defence policy directors and other relevant staff. The workshop will deal with such matters as possible tasks for the Battlegroup, national reservations and the situation in the deployment area. Processes at EU level, between the participating countries in the Battlegroup and the national decision-making process will be highlighted.

New website for information on Nordic Battlegroup

Today the Sweden's Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, released a new department on the government's website for information on the Nordic Battlegroup. The aim is to tie the five participating countries' information on NBG more closely together.
