Agencies, companies and foundations, etc. within the Ministry of Culture's area of activities

The Ministry of Culture's area of activities includes responsibility for numerous government agencies, companies and foundations.

Government agencies

Each ministry is responsible for a number of government agencies. It is the agencies that have to apply the laws and carry out the activities that the Riksdag and Government have decided on.

The Government determines the objectives, guidelines and allocation of resources for the agencies activities but it does not decide how the agencies should apply a law or what they should decide in specific matters.

Companies

The state owns and manages companies in a range of different areas of activity. The Governments overall management objective is to create value, and to ensure that the expressed interests of society are met. Companies in which the majority of the shares are owned by the state are generally counted as state-owned companies.

Foundations

A foundation is formed by one or more founders allocating specific property to be independently administered for a specific purpose. State foundations refer to foundations that have been established by the state. The Government is also tasked with appointing board members for a number of foundations.
