The 'Boost for Sport' initiative - a drive for Swedish sport
The initiative will have a budget of SEK 500 million per year and is to create new opportunities for the Swedish sport sector to develop its activities according to its own conditions and circumstances.

The sports movement has decided that the main focus of the initiative will be to encourage children and young people to take up sport and to get more people to participate in sport at higher ages. These efforts are to be based on a gender equality and equal opportunities perspective.
To open the door for an increasing number of people to engage in sports at higher ages, the sports movement is to work to:
- develop leagues and associations;
- increase access to sports facilities and sports environments;
- recruit and develop leaders, and
- collaborate with schools.
The Government has proposed that the initiative is to continue by having even stronger links to the work of schools and by also supporting types of physical activity other than sports, in order to reach more children and young people. Girls, and children with immigrant backgrounds, are particularly important.
