This strategy will govern Swedish development cooperation to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) from 9 September 2010 until 31 December 2015. It is based on the Government´s international development cooperation policy, the Policy for Global Development, the Paris Declaration and the EU Code of Conduct on Complementarity and Division of Labour in Development Policy.
The overarching objectives of Swedish development cooperation with the Middle East and North Africa are: stronger democracy and greater respect for human rights; and sustainable development that improves conditions for peace, stability and freedom in the region.
Cooperation will focus on three sectors:
i) Democratic governance and human rights
ii) Sustainable use of transboundary water resources
iii) Regional economic integration
